01 — The context
Conversions were firing twice in GA4 and Google Ads due to a conflict between Divi's native tag and GTM. The displayed CPA was artificially low — pushing the client to over-invest in campaigns that were actually underperforming.
02 — Before / after
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Duplicate purchase events in GA4 | Single clean purchase trigger via GTM |
| Artificially low CPA in Google Ads | GA4 and Google Ads in sync |
| Unresolved Divi/GTM tag conflict | Real CPA finally visible |
| Budget decisions based on false data | Documented tagging plan going forward |
03 — The result
Clean tracking reinstated reliable conversion data. The client now makes budget decisions based on real numbers — and can optimize campaigns with full confidence.
04 — My role
Tracking consultant on a short mission — audited the tag conflict and rebuilt the tagging plan from scratch.
05 — What I took away
Conflicts between Divi's native tag and GTM are common on WordPress — checking for them systematically before implementing GTM avoids this kind of duplication.
